Poker is a game that has been around for a very long time & it is usually played with a deck of cards. I have seen it played with other things but usually with cards. However, in this iteration of Poker from R&R Games you can play just like the Ancient Egyptians, or probably how they would have played if the game of Poker was around at the time.

Pyramid Poker is a two player game, for ages twelve years to adult, & may take ten to thirty minutes to play. The game is made up of fifty-four tiles, & a game board.

The game board has markings for the tiles to be stacked upon. In the first part of the game each player will blindly draw a tile either from the box or from a bag. That player will place their tile suit side towards them.

Each player will take turns drawing & stacking until each player has drawn & stacked fifteen tiles each. The second part of the game will start once the last tile is stacked on the pyramid.

In the second part each player will start from the top of the pyramid & work their way down taking tiles off of the pyramid to create three different hands of cards. Each hand will face off against the other. The player with the best of three hands wins the game.

I knew right away that this wasn’t going to be a great game. R&R Games make a lot of fun games to play. Some are hit & miss & Pyramid Poker is a mix. The only reason I purchased it was to play with my father who is a master of Texas Hold’Em. When I can get him to play we have fun but Pyramid Poker isn’t a game I will be toting everywhere.

All-in-all Pyramid Poker is fun for a few rounds of play but that fun feeling wears off real fast. I do like the tiles that comes with the game. They are nice thick, little blocks. The one thing that R&R really needed to add to the game was a bag to mix the tiles in. The gentleman that taught me how to play just placed all of the tiles face down onto the inside of the box lid. I just think it is better just to place all the tiles in a bag because it is easier to keep the tiles secret.

Again it isn’t a horrible game but if you really, really like playing poker then this is one to get. So get ready to build a great hand & game on!
